Mobile mechanic or workshop — which should you book?
For a growing list of jobs, a mobile mechanic on your driveway is faster and cheaper. For others, you need lifting gear and a clean bay.
Good for a mobile mechanic
Batteries, alternators, starter motors, brake pads and discs, servicing, diagnostics, suspension links, spark plugs and won't-start callouts. No garage overhead usually means lower labour rates.
Needs a workshop
MOT testing (legally a licensed station), clutch and gearbox work, cambelts on many engines, air con regas, wheel alignment, welding and anything needing the car in the air for hours.
What to check before booking
Confirm they carry the part or will source it, ask about the callout fee, and make sure you have safe, level parking with room to work.
